Insurance

Our practice accepts private payment directly from clients. We do not accept insurance. After being paid directly, we can offer the option to provide a superbill to you upon request. Some clients use these paid invoices to submit to PPO insurance plans, if applicable, for reimbursement requests.

The services we most frequently provide use two billing codes, also called CPT codes: 90791 for the diagnostic intake and 90834 for an ongoing therapy session. Feel free to ask your insurer whether those services are covered and what their reimbursement rate is for out-of-network providers.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are not using insurance have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of what care will cost. Read your rights and how to request one.

Payment

We accept cash, check, credit card and HSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service unless you have made other arrangements with the office.

Fee and insurance questions

Do you take my insurance?

We do not bill insurance. Our practice accepts private payment directly from clients. After you have paid, we can provide a superbill on request, and some clients submit those paid invoices to a PPO plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

What is a superbill and what do I do with it?

A superbill is an itemized receipt with the information an insurer needs: dates of service, the CPT code, the provider and the amount you paid. You submit it to your plan yourself and any reimbursement goes to you, not to us.

What should I ask my insurance company before I call?

Ask three things: does my plan cover out-of-network outpatient mental health, what percentage is reimbursed for CPT codes 90791 and 90834, and does my out-of-network deductible apply first. Those answers tell you your real cost.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, credit card and HSA cards.

Why does a private-pay practice cost less than it looks on paper?

Not always, and we will not pretend otherwise. What private pay buys is fewer restrictions: no diagnosis required for billing purposes, no session limits set by a plan, and your record stays out of an insurer’s system. For some families that is worth it, and for others an in-network provider is the better choice. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
